William Dugdale, London to Dr Robert Thoroton, Car Colston, Notts., 31 May 1673

'Sir, upon our parting in London the last Terme, you may remember you told me of a paper which the Earl of Huntingdon hath, under Mr Dodsworths hand, touching the descent of his Family .. Being therefore now returned to London, and upon putting my worke of the Baronage to the presse, I intreat that you will as speedily as well may be, transmit to me a copy of what you have thereof, in case it be not the same, which my good freind Colonell Talbot (who is a very exquisite Genealogist, and of great knowledge of Antiquities, especially for Yorkshire) hath from good authorities all exactly cited, communicated to me since I saw you'. [He appends a rought sketch of the pedigree to the letter.] 'You proposed my coming to Dunington sometime in the next vacation, to wayt on my Lord and to see what he hath, which may illustrate the story of his Family. But I see, that I shall have so much to do here, and in the country, in finding worke for the presse, and driving on the rest, that I shall have no leasure to stirr: therefore I must intreat you to take some paynes therein for my Lords service (if he shall please to thinke fitt) and to transmit to me what you finde worth noting'.
