Sir William (1574-1618)

His father William was the younger son of Sir Anthony Cooke of Gidea Hall, Essex and through is sister Mildred brother-in-law of William Cecil, lord Burghley. His mother Frances was the daughter of John, lord Grey (d. 1564), a younger son of Thomas, 2nd Marquess of Dorset.

He married

  1. Joyce (d. 1613), daughter of Thomas Lucy of Charlecote, Warws. His wife inherited Highnam from her great-grandfather Nicholas Arnold.

He was knighted in 1603 and sat for Gloucestershire in the 1614 parliament.

William (c1620-1703) Son

He married Anne, daughter of Dennis Rolle of Stevenstone, Devon in 1648 and they had a large family of 9 sons and 7 daughters.

In 1672 William Cooke esq. was assessed at 18 hearths in Highnam for the Hearth Tax.

William received a ring for remembrance from Sir Duncombe Colchester.

Edward (d. 1724) Son

He married Mary, daughter of Rowland Newburgh of Berkley, Som.

He received a ring for remembrance from Sir Duncombe Colchester.

Dennis (1689-1747) Son

He married

  1. Theodesia (d. 1715), the daughter of William Guise of Gloucester
  2. Anne, the daughter of George Hanger of Driffield

Despite fathering several children, he died without a direct heir and the estate passed to his sisters.
